Ericsson Predicts 1.5 Billion 5G Connections By 2024

5G is expected to reach more than 40 percent global population coverage and 1.5 billion subscriptions for enhanced mobile broadband by the end of 2024. This will make 5G the fastest generation of cellular technology to be rolled out on a global scale, according to the latest edition of the Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) Mobility Report.

NB-IoT and Cat-M are expected to account for close to 45 percent of all cellular IoT connections by the end of 2024, Ericsson predicts that in the future, NB-IoT and Cat-M will be able to fully co-exist in spectrum bands with 5G NR.

Ericsson predicts 1.5 billion 5G connections by 2024

The number of cellular IoT connections, mostly to machines, will continue to outrun the number of 5G connections, mostly to people, for at least five years. Ericsson predicts cellular IoT connections will reach 4.1 billion by 2024, compared with 1.9 billion 5G connections.

Nearly 35 per cent of cellular IoT connections will be Broadband IoT, with 4G connecting the majority, it said. The first modules supporting Critical IoT use cases are expected in 2020. Only a small fraction of total cellular IoT connections will be Critical IoT in 2024.

However, its new five-year forecast says the volume of 5G connections has gained on the number of cellular IoT connections since its November edition of the report. Its expectation of 4.1 billion cellular IoT devices is consistent with six months ago; it forecast of 1.9 billion 5G devices is an advance on its 1.5 billion forecast from November.

Most deployments, connections, and growth will come in North East Asia, where the total will reach 2.7 billion by 2024. Further growth will come as new networks and devices are deployed, forcing chipset prices down further.

Meanwhile, Ericsson said 5G will reach more than 40 per cent of the global population, and 1.5 billion subscriptions, by the end of 2024, making 5G the fastest growing generation of cellular technology to be rolled out on a global scale.

In its latest Mobility Report, the company said 5G subscriptions were now expected to reach 1.9 billion in 2024, up from its previous forecast in November 2018 of 1.5 billion subscriptions, an increase of almost 27 per cent.

5G is built on top of 4G. This is a wireless network that is expected to bring higher speeds for end-users. 5G also has the capacity to connect with billions of devices like driverless cars that will be connected to the Internet in the nearest future. According to Ericsson predictions, there will be over 1.5 billion of 5G users by 2024.

Mobile Data Traffic GrowthThe report also looked at 5G growth. By the end of 2024, 5G will cover more than 40% of the global population and support 1.5 billion subscribers for enhanced mobile broadband. The drivers will be increased network capacity, lower cost per gigabyte and new use cases. North America and northeast Asia will lead the uptake. Fifty-five percent of mobile subscriptions in North America will be 5G by the end of 2024, researchers said.

The next generation of wireless technology is here. 5G will enhance connectivity across all platforms, providing more efficient, faster and better signal strength which opens doors for new possibilities across cellular networks. It is predicted that by 2024 more than 1.5 billion devices will be connected to 5G.1 So how will 5G enhance your cellular connectivity?

According to Ericsson, 5G will have 40% of the total population and 1.5 billion subscription services by 2024, making 5G the highest generation globally incorporated. This is driven by novel, inventive solutions reprocessing present infrastructure and a spectrum. Parallel to 5G deployment, cellular IoT achieves significant benchmarks toward becoming the leading method for broad IoT applications.

Furthermore, introducing high-speed networking technologies has been a major driving force in the market. Moreover, the growing interest of multinational players in the region and rising demand from developing economies such as India and China are expected to drive market growth. Ericsson predicts that cellular IoT connections will surpass 4 billion by 2024, owing to strong adoption in North-East Asia.

Verticals using Massive IoT include utilities with smart metering, healthcare in the form of medical wearables and transport with tracking sensors. At the end of 2024, NB-IoT and Cat-M are expected to account for close to 45 percent of all cellular IoT connections. In the future, NB-IoT and Cat-M will be able to fully co-exist in spectrum bands with 5G NR.

By the end of 2024, nearly 35 percent of cellular IoT connections will be Broadband IoT, with 4G connecting the majority. When moving to 5G, with higher speed, lower latency and other capabilities, even more advanced use cases can be supported. Throughputs in the tens of Gbps and latency as low as 5ms will be possible.

"LTE (4G) subscriptions are expected to grow at CAGR of 22% from 350 million (30% of total) in 2018 to 1.15 billion in 2024, representing 81% of all mobile subscriptions," Cerwall said. Total global mobile subscriptions in the third quarter of 2018 increased by 120 million while India accounted for 31 million out of it.

2019 is set to be the year that the long-awaited 5G technology starts to take off. Many expect this to be a game-changer and, according to Ericsson, a telecom equipment manufacturer that makes some of the 5G infrastructures, by 2024 there will be over 1.5 billion of us connected to 5G. You may have also seen the recent launch of a new range of mobile handsets from Samsung that will include 5G technology. So, things are starting to intensify.

Experts forecast that by 2024, 40% of the world will have access to 5G networks (Ericsson). Meanwhile, a more recent report reveals that by 2025, the number of 5G mobile subscriptions worldwide is forecast to exceed 2.7 billion (Ericsson, 2021). In terms of web design, the emergence of 5G offers a totally new set of browsing possibilities. Once 5G goes mainstream, existing technologies like HD video and images and WebGL will be easily deployed. 2ff7e9595c
